Kingson Kin-Sing CHAN
Lives and works in Hong Kong. Kingson Chan’s practice investigates the tension between the individual body and external systems of control. Working across drawing, photography, video installation, and performance, his work acts as a "somatic glitch"—a human interruption in the logic of surveillance, urban planning, and cultural expectations. Chan’s work is highly idiosyncratic, intertwining elements of autobiography, documentary, and anthropology to expose the invisible boundaries that govern our lives. From early inquiries into political observation to recent physical interventions in public space, he consistently explores how the human body can resist, disrupt, or simply exist within rigid structures.
He was awarded the British Council 60th Anniversary Scholarship to pursue a Master of Arts in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, University of the Arts London, United Kingdom. Chan holds a BA in Fine Arts (Hons) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a BBA in Marketing (Hons) from Hong Kong Baptist University.
He has worked as a member of the production team for the cultural event "Detour" and has experience in Ai weiwei studio art project management. Chan received an “Honorary Mention” for the Social Art Award from the Institute for Art and Innovation, Germany, in 2019; an “Excellence Award” for the <Joy of Art: Irene Chou Response Show> at Asia Society Hong Kong Centre in 2020; and was a finalist for the "Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize" organized by the Justice Centre Hong Kong in 2020. In 2022, Chan received a full grant from the Hong Kong Art Development Council Cultural Exchange Programme and attended an artist-in-residency in Spain. He has exhibited in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia, Greece, Spain, and Romania, and his works are held by private collectors. He established his own studio for art creation in 2017 and served as a part-time art instructor at CUSUS, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
