The absurdity of totalitarianism lies in its irrational, unexpected, repeated and frightening actions that make no sense to people but everyone just has to accept it. It sets a distance between the totalitarian ruling party and its citizens without actual physical touches needed.
An infrared sensor will be set randomly without announcing to the public. Viewers who walk through that area will trigger the alarm unintentionally to produce alerting sounds for a short period of time. That sound distorts the atmosphere of the exhibition venue and creates confusing, frightening (and annoying) senses to the audience. This work challenges viewers’ conventional perception of exhibition experience and examines the idea of irrational rule that one may not be even aware of.
